Before the pavers
The part of the job you never see finished.
These are our grading days. A patio that stays flat for twenty winters is decided here, with a skid steer and a string line, before a single paver comes off the pallet.

The pattern is a load decision.
Running bond
Faster to lay and it reads cleaner on a straight walkway. It is weaker under vehicle load.
